#14: Is anything else other than focusing on goals a waste of time?
We have all heard this quote before that I am about to butcher a little bit. It says once you know your goal and you know what you want, everything else becomes a distraction. Although that could be true to some degree, not everything that isn’t our primary goal is a distraction! Let’s say your main goal is to run a marathon. Does this mean any other activity rather than training for Marathon is a waste of time? NO! You still need rest, you need time with friends, time with family, time to reflect, and so much more than just training for a marathon and eating healthy. Yes! You still put that on the top of all priorities and manage all your life around running that marathon but that doesn't mean you put all other aspects of your life on hold! Same goes for all goals and dreams in our life.
Why is that you might ask? My answer is because of equilibrium! We, as creatures of nature, need balance in everything. In PH level of skin, hormones, work-life, exercise, relationships and in life in general. Anything that goes out of balance, can be problematic. That’s why we should all aim for balance but does this mean we will get to full complete balance? Probably not! We are human and we are imperfect. We miss things, we have blindspots and we will make mistakes and go out of balance all the time!
My first aim with this episode is to encourage a multifaceted life that doesn’t put any goal on pedestal to the point that every aspect of your life goes out of balance. Aiming for wealth while missing health, even if you get there is not worth it. People who have lost their health, would give their whole net worth just to be able to be healthy again like walking properly or exercise or enjoying their meal.
Second aim for this episode is to remove shame and guilt around all the times we went out of balance even if we are still seeing the side effects of it now. My idea is you can get on track again, take control of your life once again and go to your balanced life again! Just know you are who you are now because of all the decisions you made, good or bad! And no one knows what would’ve happened to you if you hadn't made those mistakes.
My third aim is to also show you, there is no waste of time if that activity is giving you what you need and what you want and if you are mindful of what you are doing. So please don’t listen to advice from those you don’t want to trade lives with! If you have proper reasoning that your hobby is not a waste of time and if you feel aligned with your higher purpose, you are not wasting time, you are working towards living to your fullest!
